Inclusion; is enough being done?

As we join the UN to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we ask ourselves if enough is done in the UK and around the world to improve inclusion. Too often we hear that inclusion remains a major challenge; whether at school, at work or in society at large. Inclusion is not a word that you insert in a policy or document, you actually need to see it through with actions and purpose. Without appropriate adaptations, in many situations inclusion is simply not possible. We would like to invite you to join us on the 4th of December to discuss these issues with Paralympian and Steps Ambassador Jude Hamer.

‘Whilst I think events like the London 2012 Paralympic Games have done amazing things to increase participation in adaptive sports and improve representation in the mainstream media, I believe there is still work to be done to increase awareness of limb difference disabilities. For me, this starts at a young age in school, with sports such as Inter Zone Basketball (IZB) being used to allow disabled and able bodied children to play together and enjoy sports regardless of disability.’ Jude Hamer
